Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly spreading into almost every aspect of our lives.
However, to predict and balance the benefits and risks that technology will bring is a very complex problem and will need our constant attention and effort. Instances of AI discriminating against specific groups or causing the indiscriminate leakage of personal information are already becoming a reality. Questions such as ‘How do we regulate technological development?’ and ‘Who bears responsibility?’ are no longer future concerns but urgent matters that must be addressed here and now.
The concept of ‘Ethics by Design’ focuses on embedding ethical values throughout the entire lifecycle of AI technology. Additionally, we examine how technological development can coexist with social responsibility by analyzing domestic and international trends as well as real-world cases involving AI regulation. Most importantly, this approach aims to help students develop the ability to critically assess problems and propose practical solutions, integrating critical thinking into every step of the process.
The following chapters provide a systematic exploration, from the foundational principles of ‘Ethics by Design’ to real-world case studies, concrete proposals for improvement, and the relationship between ethical design and existing regulations.
